Renoise will be ruined once you add a piano roll to it, it’s like the classic “will they or won’t they” plot device

The message of the users is clear… and a bit scary, yes, true. :open_mouth: :astonished:

Renoise doesn’t NEED a piano roll for it to be functional. I personally wouldn’t need one, but I honestly don’t understand people’s adverse response to the option of one. Having an optional piano roll that could be turned on and off would only add to overall functionality of the software. This die-hard tracker head attitude of “a piano roll would ruin a tracker”, “piano in tracker = stupidity”, “vertical is better than horizontal” needs to fucking die off because it’s nothing but elitist nonsense from a close minded perspective. To push Renoise forward as music making platform, and to attract new users and push up revenue (the very thing that keeps this project alive) there needs to be open minded options for advancement of additional functionality and the lose this idiotic mindset of “duuuuuh trackaz is da bestest, I is love da Renoise, piano roll for stoopids”

Renoise doesn’t need a piano roll at all! I would never use it, it’s absolutely unnecessary. A waste of space, no more and no less. And one of the reasons I use Renoise is because there is no piano roll. What would be the advantage of a piano roll in Renoise? The editing is a complete different thing than in other DAWs like Cubase. And the editing is the reason why Renoise is the number one DAW for so many people. Just like me.
I just wanted to have said this once.

You’re entirely entitled to think that but you’re mindset is completely wrong. You’re solely thinking about your own personal needs and not the needs or wants of others. YOU may not have the use for one, just as I ALSO stated I do not have the use for one either. However, the addition of an optional…READ IT…OPTIONAL…piano roll wouldn’t hinder your workflow in any way shape or form, especially if that OPTIONAL piano roll came with the ability to be hidden out of sight. It would absolutely not be a waste of space or clutter in that case. Lets for instance use an analogy: You and me bought have a cake each, we can not only have our cakes but we can also eat them…if we want to. I decide well hot fucking damn, I’ll have my cake and I’ll eat it, but you, for whatever reason, decide “nah, I don’t wanna eat my cake, I think I’ll just have it to look at it”.

Also as for implementation into how a piano roll would work, it’s entirely possible. The so-called, highly acclaimed, granddaddy of modern electronic music that is Aphex Twin used PlayerPro to create a lot of the tracks on his famous Drukqs album. And shockingly, surprise, surprise, PlayerPro was a tracker WITH a piano roll…

Why don’t you just use PlayerPro then? It’s still around.
