Reverser DSP Effect

New DSP effect idea that I have is a “Reverser”. It’s similar to a “Repeater” DSP effect except what it does it it captures the sound playing from the track but it reverses the captured sound. Some of the options I think would be worth including is the capture length and selection of unit of measurement for capture length (lines, milliseconds, or division of pattern) and a option whether this effect is looped by reversing back, repeat the reversed signal, or not loop it at all where if it doesn’t loop, it would recapture the new signal and reverse the new signal if the effect is still on. And for the option that is not looped or it is a repeated loop, maybe have a cross-fade option as well if the abrupt cut effect was undesired.

I think this would a great addition to Renoise and there are times when I am working on a song that I wish I have something like this especially for things that involve plugins or MIDI instruments. I’m sure there are plugin effects that achieve this but I’d like to see a native Renoise effect for this because it would be integrated better with the lines measurement option.

why not resample and B00?
no added latency then…

Volume inconsistencies and I don’t really like to have effects destructively added to samples like that unless I turn them all off then turn them back on after recording a sample. Also doing things after a resample like changing instrument parameters or sample effects parameters may require another resample as well. I used to resample a lot but I have grown to not liking it as much and eventually use it much more sparingly than I used to.

I hear you. Just seems like a device that buffers for any significant amount of live reversal would add an unwieldy amount of latency for anyone not strictly composing via note entry, and would add very sluggish playback start to boot.

I saw this VST plugin that does what I described what I wanted for the most part with some exceptions For one, no line count support (obviously), and secondly, it only recaptures audio signal rather than doing any looping. I gave it a shot and it didn’t really seem to gave me any issue with latency though I only did a quick test and not really tried to use it in production, which is something that I am going to do eventually. If you want to take a look at it, it is free to download and it’s part of the “essential effects pack” (you don’t have to install everything). But, the caveat is that it’s login-walled which annoyed me. It does work with Yahbridge on Linux which is what I used to get it running.

If it’s really not possible to make a native Renoise effect that does this in a efficient manner, that would be a bummer. But I guess I could use this plugin in the meantime at the very least.

I made a pseudo reverse delay effect with Impulse and Convolver: Pseudo Reverse Delay Efx using IR

i’ve been trying to figure this one out for a while, it didn’t occur to me to post it to the idea section. Thankyou all.I would be very interested with being able to switch direction on pitch bending time stretches, the base control schema for aethereal pads a heavy-ass bass motifs, That whole feeling of your hair raises from the impending Super intelligence welcoming you. So you start hearing it like a premonition on the ball. Like real true sword battles between Wuxia Pien liquid swords.
