Alexstrain - those pictures look less like the evolution of your studio and more like an evolution from bachelor → girlfriend → wife doesn’t want to look at your damn messy studio anymore. =)
Rebuilding in process at the moment, crappy pics below. Next to do will be room treatment, more hardware added, window area fixed / another desk etc.
It has been mentioned on another forum I visit, in a similar kind of thread, that every studio picture should come with a piece of music (soundcloud link) produced in it .
Done.
Time to expand my friend!
As you wish… There!
Done!
Here are the latest pictures of my studio 2012. While the main sequencer is studio one Im using renoise as a rewired slave. In these photos you’ll notice it on the laptop.
Computer specs: Mac Pro 2011 2 xeon processors with 12 cores (24 cores total), 10 Terabytes of hard Drive space, 17 gigabytes of ram.
I like the new space Alex, good vibe.
What does that twisty circular thing on the bottom right (by the keyboard) do? I don’t know what it does… but it looks fun!
i’m guessing it can scroll through the song, and has simple buttons like play, pause, rec, etc.
Hi. It seems very close to a Contour ShuttlePro.
Each and every button and rotational thing (the rotational thingy in increments) can be mapped to send keyboard commands to Renoise.
If you’re very, very clever, you’ll use this to activate scripts via shortcut. One could be record on/off. Another could be play/stop. Another could be record_sample/stop_sample_record. another could be normalize sample in sample editor. another could be expand / shrink keyboard shortcuts for selection data (thanks protman).
the rolly thingy can be set to scroll around the patterndata or sequencedata, either fast or not. You can use it to flick stuff around timelinewise for video, and whatnot.
BTW, I had trouble setting up a keyboard button in Contour ShuttlePro to activate the record loop on/off&write-sample-to-pattern-with-g01 so that it would actually start sampling and stop sampling with one button press each. That’s my excuse for being on the forum, instead of wigging out in my bedroom with an AJ2 with a contour shuttlepro above it - about 3 meters away from the actual pc. I always wondered why I couldn’t get it working - other scripts do work. Weird.
Anyway, it’s possible he just uses it for video editing, who knows!
I think it’s his Studio One controller.
the screenshot is my new X79 motherboard with 32GB of RAM and a 3.2gHz LGA 2011 CPU with 2 threads per core enabled
An update from my new flat:

@mr_mark_dollin: Pron for musicians!!
Nice setup mr mark dollin, how is that Art Pro VLA II working for you?
Can you put it between guitar & preamp (without fx loop)?
I can do that, but it’s a bit of an overkill for the job, so I have the little Studio V3 for that job. The V3 has a guitar ‘mode’ which sounds really workable and it’s small enough for gigging. I use it before all my digital fx so it get a warmer, smoother tube sound. If I were recording however, anything and everything goes through the VLA before the converters.
The VLA stepped up into a new league when I re-tubed it. The stock tubes are ok-ish (standard Chinese production), but if you hunt around for a particular tube colour from New-Old-Stock tubes you can come across some analogue magic. I put some old Telefunken 12AU7s (best match) in mine and the sound is just brilliant! I use it a lot for bouncing mix stems through - and it’s almost good enough for mastering. Still, it’s not a patch on a Manley or Phoenix.
