I have found a post in another forum that describes that which I am trying to achieve: Pattern Navigation With Arrows

I want to input beats etc in the same way I did with FT2 (where the down arrow step used the same spacing as the input keys). This enables the tapping out of rhythms on the keyboard and inputting in a very fluid way. I can not seem to do this in Renoise. Can someone help me out with this? Many thanks.

Preferences > Keys > Pattern Editor > Navigation > Move to Next Row with EditStep

You can remap this keybinding to the down arrow key to achieve what you want.
