good news… i almost got in trouble at work yesterday, but i didn’t!! woohoo!
my job is to do insurance verification for a hospital – basically i just call insurance companies and make sure that people are covered before they come in for their surgeries. well sometimes if a surgery is considered potentially cosmetic, the insurance company will require “prior approval” before the patient comes in – so they can review the procedure and make sure it is medically necessary. this process usually takes a couple of weeks.
so i was doing my job yesterday and one of my co-workers calls me and she’s like “do you have this patient on your desk?” … she gives me patient’s name… i look through my stack of work… “no”, i say… and she says “well it’s your patient. he was added on may 12th and he’s coming in tomorrow” …
so i print the account and look at what he’s coming in for… it’s like turbinate reduction which i think some insurance companies actually require prior approval for… also a procedure that costs about $2000 USD so i’m all panicking because … i should have worked the account 3 weeks ago!!! enough time to get prior approval if it is required… but since i didn’t work it, i could get in big trouble because if it’s not authorized beforehand and the patient still comes in, basically the patient will owe $2000 to the hospital which will likely never get paid back, and it will be MY fault 1) that the patient owes all that money and isn’t getting covered by the insurance, and 2) that the hospital is loosing all that money …
so i was “oh shit” mode when i called the insurance company. got my CPT codes and so after i got the benefits i asked “does this require any prior approval”… and the bitch takes a really long time to look it up while I’m holding my breath …
finally she’s like "this does not require any prior approval "…
so i’m like… sigh of relief… just dodged a bullet there

I am getting better now. I have a good plan for next weekend already, my sister will visit me and we will go out both wearing huge black sunglasses. The point of this is that I have -7.5 on both eyes, I am totally blind with out my glasses and I dont have and want lenses. So I will stagger around blindly for one fun evening, yeah.

I’m a happy Foo? - just got some new toys at work.
I work in an audio studio - we joking call it “The Museum” because it has really old analogue gear it in that we’re tying to do modern production with (+ a computer that is OMFG a dell 
) - but after 12 months of requesting finance finally granted us to buy some new gear to replace our portable casette recorders for recording live lectures.
We got 4 M-Audio MicroTracks with 8 1G compact flash cards. These little devices are simply amazing: 24/96 or right down to low bitrate mp3 recording - with balanced trs inputs and a cute effective stereo condenser thrown in. It’s making my job so much easier, and actually fun. The old tapes used to chew up all the time.
I can recommend these devices to anyone: they’re absolutely perfect for field recordings.
