The pattern editor hangs / lags when my project is running

UPDATE
fixed the issue by disabling “auto rescan when hot plugging devies”
i noticed it was constantly scanning every 20 seconds or so and saying ‘found 4 input and 4 output midi devices’ at the bottom of the screen.
Now its playing 200 bpm breakcore with 10 channels no problems.
Thankyou for the help !

The audio is fine, there is no glitching or anything.
Just that when i am playing a song with the 'follow' on, the scrolling freezes / hangs for a split second.
It does it almost randomly, not at specific points or specific commands.
Tried with slow and fast tempos and it still does it.
I want to use the screen recording of the pattern editor mixed with my visuals so its kind of messing that up.
Tried adjusting about everything GUI related, audio buffer etc, frame rate up and down made no difference......out of ideas. CPU is mostly at about 2 percent i doubt its that either. possibly a gremlin ?
If anyone has any ideas i appreciate it.
Wondered if anyone else had encountered such a problem ?
cheers
Tom

Yes, could happen, but only if CPU usage is very high. I’m talking about 70% and more (OS = Windows).

Does it happen when opening a plugin/vsti gui and or when adjusting parameters in the vst(i) while the renoise pattern is running? Do the gui stutters go away when closing the external plugin editors?

thats what i figured too. Weird because my project is so simple and the cpu is basically nothing. Thanks for the reply.

No Vst open no. It is a fairly simple jungle track with 5 channels and thats it. Really weird. I mean in comparison i could run multiple VST and Max 4 live patches in ableton and never really have an CPU issues. My machine is pretty powerful.
Really weird. on a demo project with one channel like the slicing tutorial its ok. but anything else it starts to lag and freeze.yet the CPU never reaches 10 percent and is usally like 5. I dont get it. driving me mad tbh lol

Have you tried an older build of Renoise?

I tried 3.2.1 and 3.4.4 (the latest one basically) and they both have the same issue. Maybe i should try some other versions. Not sure what else i can try tbh.

Are you on a mac, which OS?

No, not on a Mac. i’m on Windows 10.

Can you make a demo song, where this always happens for you and share it can be tested on other setups?

yeah. i’m actually back in work tomorrow and i can try it on my laptop there. i don’t think its soomething in a specific project though because it does it on every project ive made and any demo song i load. thanks

i recorded it for a minute video

its weird because it does it for a while then will play for like 30 seconds smooth, then starts doing it again.

Good to hear you found the problem!

Do you by any chance have a bluetooth trackball mouse? I had the same a few years ago (Renoise randomly scans for new devices? Audio driver issue?) with a universal bluetooth dongle, it fixed itself when I got a new mouse and dongle.

Yeah, well happy thats fixed ! It was also causing my midi sync to my hardware to jump around and that is also working really tight now. I run everything from the keystep pro as master so its sick i can jam with my hardware and renoise now.
I’m not using anything bluetooth tbh, i always avoid bluetooth because whenever i have to use it at work it pisses me off and randomly stops working lol
Cheers!
