it sounds good
basses are not easy to manage
i’m working en an ebm remix with renoise
don’t know if it sounds good? any suggestions ?
I actually like Crossfire 005 version the most. Sounds the most coherent to me, or something… Only maybe the compression of the kick and snare seems weird? Maybe simply too loud, in the sustain phase? Or maybe duck the bass away on kick? Can’t say anything about boomy lowend, my speakers are too small.
A guy who has the Kii 3 speaker found that version midrangey and sterile. What speakers / headphones do you have?
Sounds pretty good. Quite a lot of sub bass, but the mix is transparent.
I don’t like vocals though.i think it doesn’t even need vocals.
I have the Neumann KH 120A, those are very precise in dynamics and also eq balance, but not exact when it comes to bass below 50 Hz or very small resonances on the highs. Did not check with headpones.
what do you mean with “mix is transparent”, it’s too flat ? How do yo give more “spatial” sound in renoise ?
Ok so we have the same speakers I check again with fresh ears.
No. I mean it sounds clear and not muddy. It’s a good thing.
It doesnt have resonances at highs. It’s flat as a speaker can get.
Yes, I meant that I personally have a hard to time to hear resonances on the highs on these speakers, so if a mix has resonances (mine, not yours). The speakers are very flat indeed, I totally agree.
What I am trying to say, the speakers seem to be not very precise in the very high range, regarding frequency spectrum, they kind of absord little resonance peaks, but I think this is true for most speakers which are not very very small. Or my ears are too old already.
Sometimes my ears are crackling when I hear distinct resonant sounds like Snare or Hihats. My ear doctor said that is normal for some people. Some kind of protection mechanism… My ears are fine and I hear up to 13 kHz which is fine for my age.
Dig it, this sounds good.
Leans more towards Minimal techno than towards EBM imho, lotta EBM is ‘stompy’ with lofi snare cracks.
Also; vocals bit too upfront, becomes more listening and thinking and less dancing since vocal is loud.
yes you right, vocals are from ebm, but not music. I’ll try make the vocals not so loud, thanks
I actually think that it is a physical limitation in the design of most monitor tweeters, that they can‘t reproduce fine resonances. Had the same also on the very different adam tweeters, but can clearly hear such resonances with headphones. Also the nearfield design might be counter effective here.
Ok this is nearly finished now i just have to add various bells and whistles.More 5/8 odd beats. Please give me some useful criticism.
Hopefully useful
Give it some more breathing room. Pauses, voices dropping out, breakdowns, etc.
It could also be interesting to alternate with a section of 3 or 7 to give more rhythmic interest
I like the mixing, sounds very solid to me Maybe a mono phaser, slightly on all the snares and hihats, except kick, would give it more dynamical impression. Or comb filter or whatever. Then in contrast, you could sometimes do a drumroll by using Renoise repeater device, so very statical.
Yes, I agree, don’t like the vocals either. It’s like I want to hear the track, and then some annoying guy or dj is shouting into the song all the time. Please, shut up.
I did have a nice section that breaks down but I just can’t get it to fit,I gave up on it eventually cuz it was like, once that section came in,all the momentum was sucked out.Ive spent hours trying to get it in but it just won’t fit anywhere,I can take another stab at it tomorrow maybe, the track does break down later on but it’s not in the excerpt,it is helpful criticism and I’ve been battling with in this track.
I also have a change in time phrasing later on where it alternates between 6/4 and 4/4 to make 10/4 which is the same amount of time as 4 bars of 5/8. Also some 5/4 and 10/4 and two bars of 10/4 that seem like one bar of 20/4 but I’m not sure if it is correct to use 20/4 as a time signature but to me it makes sense
I’m gonna take it on board anyways and try tomorrow,il post back here if I wedge something in somewhere, thanks for listening
I’ll try some of this too, cheers!
