Using Buzz Instruments And Effects In Renoise

Just like you said, I’ll be so very hoping as much and as strong as possible.

A VST3 wrapper that loads Jeskola Buzz machine DLLs and runs them inside any VST3-compatible DAW. Buzz machines are 32-bit plugin DLLs that represent virtual instruments and effects in the Buzz music tracker.

BuzzBridge exposes two VST3 plugins in a single bundle:

  • Buzz Generator Bridge – loads Buzz generator (instrument) DLLs
  • Buzz Effect Bridge – loads Buzz effect DLLs

Both 32-bit and 64-bit DAWs are supported. All Buzz machine parameters are mapped to automatable VST3 sliders with correct names, ranges, and defaults. MIDI note and CC input is fully supported.

This morning I decided on a whim to look up if there had been any recent advancements in the Buzz to VST; boy, am I glad that I did. Seems stable so far [EDIT: ran into two issues: 1) cannot run in any sample rate besides 44.1khz or multiple thereof; 2) when loading a machine, sometimes it will hang indefinitely [“loading…”]; only work around so far seems to be reloading the plugin and hoping it will unfug itself. BUT, overall, it is working], runs as a VST3, and the release page includes a massive selection of Buzz Machines.

Hope this helps some of you who couldn’t get the old adapter working in v3 (I couldn’t!).

Not anymore btw. Visit https://buzz.robotplanet.dk/

Coincidentally, the other day i´ve been thinking about one or two Buzz generators which were special and not a common bread´n´butter synth. Looking forward to using them in Renoise!
(But first i have to recall their names since so many have been created over the years).

Thanks and cheers!

EDIT : Unfortunately many don´t work in the VST bridge.

Let us know once you remember! I’ve been having a real hoot rediscovering some of these machines.

Crappy that some of them aren’t working. I have a raised a few issues with the person behind the project. It’s fairly unstable on my machine (won’t always load / remember .dll path; some of the machines simply do not work; as well as the sample rate & load hanging issues I mentioned previously)

The fella behind this plugin hasn’t responded to any of the bugs, so I used Claude Opus to help patch it. And now it works really well. I am not going to push this to github, I just wanted to share it here.

Changes since v1.0.7 (the original) (my build is r6):

Audio and stability:

  • Fixed the crackling at sample rates other than 44.1 kHz. The sample-rate conversion was feeding the machine the wrong number of samples at every block boundary. It now works with any sample rate.
  • Fixed machines hanging forever on “loading…”. Machines have been loading properly but if they don’t, loads now time out and report the reason.
  • Missing helper DLLs (dsplib, MFC, auxbus) are now found in the machine’s folder and up to three folders above it. If one is still missing, you get a message saying which one.
  • Sample players like Pro4 now play once a sample is loaded. The Wave parameter was being treated as note velocity for some reason.

GUI:

  • Removed the Tracks row and the Load Samples button and list, so the window is just the DLL and folder buttons, presets, parameters and the machine browser.
  • Presets now clear when you switch machines. Machines without presets show “(no presets for this machine)”.
  • Added a Machines button below the parameters that collapses and expands the machine browser.
  • The parameter panel is now a 300 × 300 square, centered, and the window is narrower (360 px).
  • The window now fits your screen. The machine list shrinks on short screens, so there is no extra scrollbar.

Here ya go, friends: Proton Drive
