VSTs you REGRETTED buying?

Surge is almost entirely in VCV, including the Mutable Instruments additions.

I use the envelopes and LFOs in almost every patch, because they have marvelous visual feedback.

PS: It’s also in Cardinal - which honestly I’m using more than VCV.

The dev actually is very friendly. I don’t have crashes in synthmaster 1/2 anymore. Synthmaster 3 still has some bugs, but they are adding a ton of good features and instantly doing bugfixes. Just report it via kvr messaging and be sure to run the latest update.

I actually can highly recommend synthmaster 3, it is an amazing, true workstation and very good sounding. I set it to maximum quality and it still runs fluent on my arm machine.

Was it the performance? I gave komplete start a try and immediately uninstalled it, it just feels sooo bloated and heavy, well sampler vsts or GB-sized plugins/libraries were never my cupoftea, but if the free version was slow I cannot imagine the paid (komplete) one

It honestly sounds amazing but the size, installation process, performance, etc are super annoying… I also HATE to be stuck in a developer ecosystem. When you need to format your PC it’s hell on earth to reinstall everything.

Size and performance! Ind its all just a sampler.
I get better thing out of renoise intruments with my samples!

Exactly! I guess it would go well with reaper but there’s no point in Renoise lol

I have several Waves plugins that i use almost in any project. But bought only the good ones.

I remember, nearly 20 years ago, all the Waves stuff was very expensive. But nowadays they’re way cheaper. Even when not on sale.

I really do like Pigments, probably my favourite synth across the range. At least on the same level as Serum (inc. 2).
The rarest I use – Massive X from NI. A bit overengineered and overcomplicated from my POV.

I always forget about Lion, but it’s kind of a powerhouse for a certain type of otherworldly sound!

I haven’t used Lion or Triad but Bass-Mint by the same developer is cool. Although I barely use it since I got Tone Projects’ Basslane Pro.

Plug-ins I regret buying are definitely VPS Avenger, and honestly everything by Native Instruments. Omnisphere is borderline regret. While I’ve used it a lot in the past, I haven’t even installed it on my current computer. It’s too cumbersome to use and the new update seems underwhelming also.

I always use the Weiss Maximizer, it’s a good product. So I’ve also purchased the Weiss Compressor, which is a good product too. Unfortunately it’s unusable due to its latency of 182 ms if also using the Maximizer while composing, because the Maximizer has the same latency value and they seem to add up. The result is a massive delay of sound when playing the song one’s working on. So I never use it, that’s why I kinda “regret” the purchase. Usual price: 300 €…

Yes, I use it from time to time by replacing the native compressors with the Weiss Compressor after finishing composing, but that’s laborious and I prefer handy stuff. It would be nice to know about the latency value of each product before purchasing. I’ve never seen any informations about latencies on product pages.

Couldn’t find any adjustable settings in this regard.

I was about to add Falcon here, not because it is bad, but simply because I don’t use it. But then they published once again a free update, which is heavily triggering my dopamine level - all I need. Very nice.

Thanks for the hints, but that’s more laborious than replacing the compressors after composing. I prefer to have the finished product after rendering once (real time, because offline could cause sync issues), I don’t want to mess around with external programs, stems, rendered wave files or whatever. Besides of that each instrument usually needs individual compressor settings, so to me it doesn’t make sense to compress everything with the same settings through the master. There’s already an additional compressor in each bus (drum bus, instrument bus). And having any kind of limiter in the master while finishing mixing is important imho, otherwise one have to redo all the mixing, because the limiter/maximizer affects the loudness of every instrument too. I’ll stick to my method, because it’s the handiest I know and I think the results are ok.

what if you spent your time making music instead of trolling @TNT everytime you have the occasion to ? he recently said he was going some rough things in his life, don’t need another internet troll saying shits every time he comes here to clear up his mind

Same. I love their GUI. I have both but never use them anymore. I did make IR responses of the deep reverb for the convolver.

Breaktweaker (not even available anymore) Actually it is REALLY good at making synth drums from scratch, and also has a massive sample library. But the bloody GUI and drum machine portion are horrendous. Ok it does stutters…big whoop. Also it is a HUGE CPU hog. I was looking for a good drum synth since I already had , Microtonic and Attack, but they are both a bit long in the tooth. I do make drums in Breaktweaker and then sample them quite often, as it is great at that, so i guess i am getting some use out of it.
