I would really love to see a ‘Tab to Transient’ feature in the sample editor to help speed up manual chopping!
Wow… this is a big thread… How many ideas / requests, brought up by us, the users, got implemented in the last version?
1?
Better change the topic name to " What feature are you dreaming of for in upcoming Renoise releases?
Quick scroll through this thread i’ve found requests for VST3 and ARM support. So some got implemented
A parallel effects container at the track effects level - as per the device found in Bitwig, Ableton etc.
Native granular playback.
One feature that we would all appreciate most - blunt honestly from @taktik , what can feasibly be added and what cannot. What features are “never, ever” items? What features could be added if we were to chip in some money? Like a “fix the school roof” fundraiser, lets set some goals and get stuff funded. I don’t care that I’ve paid for a license up to 4.3 - lets get a Kickstarter going, set goals, stretch goals and some timescales - be pragmatic. Be honest - what is possible, what is not and if not, what can we do. I want to see this DAW grow and be something that has a healthy community around it. I’d contribute to such an idea. Perhaps a Renoise Premium, a recurring payment kinda like Patreon to help move things along - selling licenses is not a steady stream, would such an idea help?
Just putting ideas out. I’m not rich by any means, but I do support people on Patreon and I would sub to move Renoise forward with the big requests that people have.
jupz!
A “Favorite” system of instruments. Tag an instrument as a favorite, then in the browser there is a dedicated folder of “Favorites”. If you change location/delete instrument its ok it would just be removed from “Favorites”
That is already there!? Right-click an instrument and “Add to Favorites”
I think you’re talking about the favorites system for Plugins. It would be nice to have one for sampler Instruments.
I would like “envelope” as a meta device.
For instance, with envelope as a meta device, you could do really precise side chaining which you could apply with a single fx command. You could also modulate stuff in an interesting, decoupled way. Just add “one shot” mode to the LFO and make the “envelope” shaper available to the lfo too.
Also, i noticed samples now become polyphonic when they have an envelope applied to them. Was this always the case? I would prefer them to stay monophonic, it seems more consistent.
I’d like the automatically map multiple samples to velocity zones - for multi sampled kits etc
It’s so time consuming doing it manually
I think it would be handy if the phrase editor could (optionally) occupy the right side of the instrument editor screen in any of the available tabs (keyzones/waveform/modulations/effects). Just like you can expand the disk browser on the right side of the screen. Always be able to edit & see the phrases in the instrument editor. Also some kind of visual representation of the phrase events in the main pattern editor would be cool, so you can see the structure of the phrases compared with the ‘normal’ stuff in the pattern editor.
This would definitely be nice to have!
I’d like to be able to automate the master Groove line by line
Instead of
12
34
56
be able to nudge
1
2
3
4
etc
individually. I also wish the groove scaled. In my understanding, the master Groove becomes pretty useless as soon as you change the LPB.
Id also like to see per-track grooves. The master Groove could still be used as a kind of “glue” to blend the whole composition together at the end.
I’d also like to be able to automate all groove sliders.
I’d like to see some sort of groove pool introduced.
I wish different tracks could have different LPB.
I wish they would complete 1 to 1 rip off Bitwig Studio Remote Controls. I honestly don’t know why every DAW doesn’t steal that feature, it’s truly killer. It’s like having Komplete Kontrol built into your DAW.
I’d also like to see some new MIDI FX. I don’t really need more audio effects or instruments I’m a VST guy. But MIDI FX are great. Again in Bitwig they have recently introduced some good ones - Humanize Quantize Strum Ricochet etc. Just effects that change the midi you are playing without changing anything on the tracker.
I’d also love ARA2 support. Melodyne is essential for my sampling workflow, without it I just stick to VST instruments as I do in Renoise.
I’d also like to see a “map to white keys” option for the scale lock on instruments. It’s one thing memorizing a scale on piano, but it’s silly to memorize scale layouts on a computer keyboard. With map to white keys the keys on your computer keyboard representing the white keys could just play all the in scale notes. Much better for melodies and chords.
I’d also love the ability to set custom background and font colors per-column. So all the delays are blue on white the volumes are black on yellow etc I just find them too hard to tell apart as-is.
Using an image as a background would be great and if I could do that it’d be easy to make a custom one with vertical stripes and then the aforementioned feature would be unnecessary.
More FX would be cool. Like a note repeat FX.
In general with Renoise and almost any DAW I’d rather see existing features perfected rather than trying to add too much new stuff.
Time stretch/ repitch without changing time would be extremely useful and would seem to complement a lot of the other features (since renoise is quite sample focused). It’s the main edge ableton has over renoise for me (although i still prefer renoise overall). It would be a big deal if renoise got this feature.
You mean time stretching without changing pitch? This is possible. Check out the different sync settings in the sample properties in the instrument editor.
- Toggle sharp/flat display
- Incremental search in file browser
- Sample start offset (so I can loop 0…15, 1…16, 2…17 etc. at different pitches easily)
