No, they didn’t earn money. It was more an underground scene with meetings somewhere where everybody brought his Amiga and played the games. The winner was who reached most points or the highest level. Prices for the winners were new games or equipment for the computer. Mostly these people got their games all illegal by pirating or even cracked the games themselves. I don’t know any gamer who was owning games legally in that time. We all were crackers back in the days. My big brother’s best buddy was a well known amiga games cracker here in Germany back in the days. His scene name was Eddy X and his cracker team was called Spreadcraft.
The pro gamers back in the days were also all private players who knew all the tricks to easily win a game.
I mostly like older games, dont really care about graphics, the game-play and the atmosphere the game creates is what i look for.F.E.A.R is my number one game always installed in all of my hardware along with Max Payne 1 and 2 and the first Crysis.
I really hope one day they remake it or at least do a remaster. At least we got a remake for Dead Space but i dont think they have plans to remake Dead Space 2 .As for the third Dead Space, that was awful not a Dead Space game in my book,we need a true Dead Space 3.Who knows maybe we will get one
So no “pro gamers”, just normal competitors. Of course I’ve heard about those tournaments and I know some dudes who were participating. But compared with today’s “pro gamers”, those competitors were amateurs in every aspect.
We were kids, and kids don’t have money to buy overpriced games. Personally I’ve had some originals of my favorites like Turrican and The Last Ninja, but of course most games were (cracked) copies.
Today a good “pro gamer” can EASILY make a living by playing games. The best players earn millions in total.
I don’t play a modern game twice, that’s too time consuming. I considered the buggy Elden Ring with those missing gear as “hard mode”, and that’s how I finished the game, which still was easy in comparison to the other Souls games. It’s a pitty that I couldn’t play every side quest, but I can live with it. It was a good game despite the bugs. Nevertheless it’s the worst Soulsborn I’ve ever experienced.
Just picked up Middle Earth: Shadow of War and am thoroughly enjoying it. Gives me lots of nostalgic vibes for many different games [Dying Light, Dragon’s Dogma, Fable, among others] (not entirely sure why for all of them) and of course the original movie tie-in games that actually weren’t half bad. Got the first game Shadow of Mordor, but decided to play the follow-up on its own first, seems to be perfectly accessible for anyone that hasn’t played the previous title. Really enjoying the gameplay loop and it scratches the hack’n’slash itch.
I am currently 3 hours into the Dead Space Remake on PC, despite being an absolute loser and not being able to handle horror, it’s amazing. Never played the OG version, but on it’s own merits, this is awesome.
For many reasons Ubisoft became the worst game developer there ever was, but despite that fact I’ve spent 3 € for an Ubisoft game called “Immortals Fenyx Rising”, and it’s really good. Those who like to play Zelda (Breath of the Wild) in ancient Greece should consider to take a look.
The original version is awesome and actually didn’t need a remake, just like Resident Evil 4. But both originals and remakes are good. And if you like Dead Space, you gotta play part 2 and 3 as well.
Oh I do absolutely intend to play both sequels. I’ve then got all the Resident Evil games to start on, admittedly, I only have 2, 3 and 4 remakes to play rather than the originals as they were easier to find and pretty cheap on CDkeys.com.
Do you all know that there’s even a “god mode” in Win 10/11?
Just create a new folder on your desktop and rename it to
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
After renaming the folder name disappears (Win 10)
or it changes to that icon (Windows 11)
If you now ope this folder, you have all the settings in one easy overview instead having to awkwardly click through the windows settings from the start menu.
After opening the folder you get this (here in German language):
Currently I started playing Atomic Heart, but during the recent weeks I was playing “Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order” and “Star Wars Jedi Survivor”, which are very good games for those who like Episode IV, V and VI and hate everything else about the new Star Wars movies, just like me. It’s kinda like “Sekiro” in a Star Wars setting with unknown characters and a good story. I didn’t expect those games to be that nice. Brings back some feelings like back then when watching Episode IV as a child. Recommended.
absolutely love the xcom games, just completed the 2nd xcom remake…i would love it to go back to the original style…
iv been thinking of installing the original again and having bash, there
was one of the sequels that i never completed, terror from the deep, i might go and do that…
I also play Elite:Dangerous - Cmdr Slippycurb for anyone that plays…
I jump around between games a lot too. Right now I’m mainly playing Fallout 4 modded on my old laptop. Before that, I spent way too many nights on Hunt: Showdown and sometimes try out indie games on my phone just for a change. When I want something different, sometimes I just browse for browser games or lightweight stuff I can play on my breaks. I don’t really chase the latest AAA releases since my setup isn’t up to it, so I’m always interested in recommendations from threads like this. Recently, I’ve gotten curious about more unique gaming experiences outside the usual genres, especially things that mix traditional stuff with tech. One example I noticed is the digital version of cockfighting at iSabong, which is wild how they brought a really old tradition online.
