What games are you playing ATM?

Vice versa in my case, I had a floppy drive from the very beginning and was surprised that there were also games on tape. And you could even copy those games on tape on a cassette recorder the exact same way like copying music from one tape to another. But I barely played games on tape. I also own The Last Ninja on tape, but I always played the disk version, just like The Last Ninja 2 and 3. You could even speed up the loading time massively by loading a fast loader before loading the game. So you needed to load the fast loader first, that took a few seconds. After that you could insert your disk in the floppy drive and this way loading the whole game magically only took seconds too. While loading the game by using the fast loader the “rainbow screen” as seen in your video at 0:51 appeared.

By the way, if you love The Last Ninja 2 music, you gotta get the The Last Ninja 2 Reformation album by Matt Gray himself. He transported the original feeling into modern times. Have a listen:

Amazing what you could do with disk. I used it later when I came in contact with the C64 demo scene, for demos and some tracking.

Yeah, we copied the screeching sounds from tape to tape and it worked well.

I got that album, some of the songs are pretty good, but mostly I listen to the originals. I was an early backer to that album project. Good to see that Matt Gray is back and remixing C64 stuff.

Yeah, I immediately backed the CD after hearing that my favorite games composer Matt Gray is about to produce studio remakes of his The Last Ninja 2 soundtrack, which is also my favorite games soundtrack of all time, which is the reason why Matt Gray is my favorite games composer. It was worth the price 100%, even though it wasn’t that cheap. I also backed the Turrican Anthology by Chris Hülsbeck, but I was way more excited about Matt Gray’s Reformation The Last Ninja 2 release. Ok then, let me know your informations and I’ll ship this most likely tomorrow. You’ll receive a nicer shirt than my own TLN2 shirt, because the printing colors are nicer (original like the games cover) due to a different printing method.

Matt Gray and especially LN2 soundtrack is so good, but LN1 by Ben Daglish and Anthony Lees is not far behind, maybe as good, IMO. It’s a different style though, but I remember my hair stood up when I heard it. Really unique.

The Last Ninja OST delivers a feeling of being in a japanese setting, which is great. It matches the game perfectly. And you just posted my favorite track of the whole OST, but at the same time this track is the least “japanese setting style track”. If you love this track, you have to know the imho by far best remix of it:

All 3 The Last Ninja games do have amazing soundtracks, but my favorite by far is clearly The Last Ninja 2. Every single track is a banger. The Last Ninja has got The Wilderness (ingame) and The Wastelands (ingame), and The Last Ninja 3 has got the Intro music and my favorite called Earth.

Reyn Ouwehand did a great job on this one.

Yeah, LN2 definitely has the highest hit factor, and it was that soundtrack that twisted my mind the most. But I have to put LN1 close because I have listened to it almost as much by myself. But when I was a gametune DJ back in the 2000+, LN2 was definitely most played. Solid shit.

Holy fuck, that Wilderness remix is great, best remix I have heard since the Amiga version

I must listen more to LN3 soundtrack, it was never time for it, maybe now.

Honestly I think the Amiga versions suck, no matter if gameplay, graphics, music or whatever. The music do have wrong notes all over the place. There wasn’t even a The Last Ninja game on Amiga, they needed to call it “The Last Ninja Remix”. On C64 there’s also a “The Last Ninja Remix” game, but it’s a totally different game (basically The Last Ninja 2 with different music). And this game has got an amazing tune too. Have a listen:

Here’s the C64 OST of The Last Ninja 3. Great stuff. Not as great as The Last Ninja 2, but great.

Haha, true, I only listen sometimes because I heard the C64 version to death xD

Nice to hear these tracks you’re posting.

The tune I was actually talking about is this one:

Reyn Ouwehand again, the one who did the OST of The Last Ninja 3 (and many great scene tunes). So there are a couple of good tracks in The Last Ninja Remix on C64, even though most tracks are different versions of The Last Ninja and The Last Ninja 2 tracks.

Interesting, I’m gonna play that game.

Some of the tracks seemed good, some not. The old songs are so well written and balanced to the original instruments that it makes it hard to translate them into other forms. It’s always some hit and miss, like with the new LN2 Reformation album, even though that one is really good.

bejeweled 3 forever.

This game is mad… Don’t fooled by this simple and innocent looking pipe puzzle, this is so hard especially the early game where you only have limited number of pieces that is not / barely enough to fill a space. Once you think you have beat the game, you now have a bonus challenge to fill the whole forest with flowers. This game is only a demo, and I can’t imagine what the full version will be…

(It took me 3 hours just to solve the main goal, and the bonus goal… forget about it XD)

Nice nunchucks! Can you handle them? :+1:

I just have finished “Man of Medan”. Pretty short, but I like the ghost ship atmosphere. Nevertheless my favorite of those Dark Picture Anthology games still is “House of Ashes”. They should make a movie about that, there’s a lot of potential.

I can use them  But I’m not super speedy or anything. And I have a soft one that I normally use nowadays. I collected these since I played The Last Ninja, made many myself too.

Nice list, I will try to pick one of those I haven’t played when I need a new game. Do you have any DOS game recommendations too? There were some good games, I remember XCOM Enemy Unknown (better than both Amiga versions), Quest For Glory, and Dune, but not much more.

I just got Bloodborne to work well on PS4 emulator, think that will be next for me.

But dude, I can’t see any Metroid on your list, are you not into metroidvania style games? I recommend Metroid Fusion (GBA), if you like that then try Metroid Dread (Switch, works great on emulator). If you like both, play the rest too.

Not really, I don’t play on PC. If I play on PC, then usually Civilization 2, Die Siedler 2 and Bundesliga Manager 98. Besides Half Life and Delta Force I can also recommend Battle Zone, which is a mixture of strategy and first person shooter.

That’s a great game, but you should play it on original hardware.

There’s Metroid Prime in my Gamecube Top 15. But it’s the only Metroid game on these lists. On SNES other games are way better imho, I also don’t play on handhelds in general. And unfortunately everything from Nintendo that was released after the Gamecube sucks, whether it’s Wii, WiiU, Switch, Switch 2 or all the handhelds.

Okay, maybe I will try Half Life sometime, that game has been mentioned many times to me.

I haven’t begun my Bloodborne game yet, I might borrow a PS4 to play it when I begin. Won’t be yet though, nowadays I’m just re-playing old stuff where I don’t have to use my brain much. Not ready to get gibbed yet

Yeah, I saw the GC Metroid, I haven’t played that, only the 2D and Prime-games. Maybe GC Metroid is for me.

Half Life is great, but now 28 years later it might be not as great as back then. And just for the record, when I mention Delta Force, I’m talking about the 1998 game. In FromSoftware games you don’t have to use your brain much, but you have to be prepared for hard fights that require dexterity and agility. Metroid Prime is considered as one of the best GC games ever made, and it still looks good too.

If you’re looking specifically for DOS games on PC, you could also look at the Amiga games and check if those games are also available for PC, but don’t expect equal quality. Amiga rulez, that’s for sure. But Eye of the Beholder, The Secret of Monkey Island, Die Siedler and Civilization are good on PC too. Btw, I just remembered a good DOS game for PC that’s not available for Amiga, it’s called “Day of the Tentacle”. It’s the successor of “Maniac Mansion”, a classic point and click adventure. If you’ve got the original, you can make it run through ScummVM, no DOSBox required.

Hello : )

Half Life has some parts that did not aged well but I would still recommend it. If you have to play one I would say go for half life 2. Im not very objective because it is probably my favorite game but I do think that it’s still nearly perfect today.

Currently playing Half Life Alyx for the third time and also Dragon Quest Builders haha

Half Life 2 I have seen many times, it looks very good. I want to see what the series is all about, why it’s so appreciated. Was like that with Metroid Fusion as well, I’m so glad I played that.

FPS is not my favourite style because I get dizzy sometimes, but since I just played Metroid Prime 1+2+3, it should be okay.

Prime looks amazing today, I just played it for the first time, both Switch remaster and original on emulator.

I never got into Day Of The Tentacle, but I might replay Maniac Mansion some day, that game had very nice atmosphere. Yeah, I might try to play PC versions since I have not played them.
