haha
I made a song about AI…using Renoise of course. It’s called AI Don’t Care (aka, Ay… I Don’t Care)…hehe
I think this debate was always going to be pointless since the beginning. Whether the answer is yes or no, I personally don’t see much reason to care. I think the answer comes down to whether what AI is making can be technically considered art or not. If the answer is no, there’s no change to how we’ve made and experienced art as we always have been. If the answer is yes, sure AI might be able to create a song and we tell ourselves to technically call it art but in it’s current state, how could anyone give a damn if it sounds like generic doodoo booty cheeks anyway. If the question was “Could AI make a song?”, like maybe if AI gets better in the future, maybe the answer would be slightly more interesting. That all gets to be way too hypothetical anyway tho and I really don’t see much reason to answer that either. Just make art and try to enjoy doing it. Why would you want to hand that over to an AI?
Can AI make a song: YES.
Can AI make a good song: Arrgh… it’s complicated…
Well this blows away any AI song i ve listened !!!
Short answer: Yes
Long answer: Yes, but not one with proper mixing (usually everything sounds super compressed from what i’ve tried messing around with Suno) and not one with meaningful sounding compositions (again, i tried out Suno for the kicks and it gave me some really generic music, which i guess is what you get from being trained on a bunch of music and outputting the average between the data you had to train)
I talked about Life and Nature in my post. I’m grounded enough… But your comprehension is clearly lacking. You’re a really bad troll lol. I’ve seen better around the net.
Beethoven was a machine teleported from the year 2100 - confirmed.
Yo Stoix! Always good to hear from you here. Thanks.
I think I’ll stick with manually distorting my analog hardware for now.
try generating mathcore. the results are unbelievably good (even though somewhat generic)
can ai do (THING) ?
rinse and repeat for easy replies.
Can AI make a bong?
Probably.
But can it get baked on 28% THC Gorilla Glue?
If that doesn’t do it, nothing will
Can AI generate sounds cohesive in time and space, with sympathetic resonances - creating a crude approximation of human expression?
Yes.
Does typing “make trance banger” into Suno, importing the output into Renoise, adding some percussion and “mixing” it mean that a person has made a song?
No.
If i went to a friends house and he fed me a meal that was homecooked, and asked for my feedback i would give praise for a lovely meal.
If the same friend reheated a ready meal BUT added parmesan and pepper, for example, i would thank him for his hospitality but would not congratulate him on his cooking ability.
I can’t see how this is controversial. Generate all you want with plagiaristic AI, but don’t put a fucking bow on it and claim you made it.
This will probably happen a lot from now on.
The music industry has been saturated for years. Thousands of new songs are released in the world everyday.
Because there is so much competition between artists, and because there are so many artists, some will take the easy way and “cheat”, as has been happening until now.
Many artists take over work that is not theirs, for example by putting their name on works that have been done by hired people. Or they have succeeded by singing lyrics of songs not composed by themselves, and the lyricist is hidden without any merit.
The music industry is tremendously unfair to many artists. AI is already another thing in this game.
For me the solution is relatively simple. If a musical work succeeds, the artist must prove in some way that it is 100% original. The problem is that the listener will not care. Many artists are succeeding and their music is not good, their lyrics are not good, but they have money, publicity and contacts.
AI can ultimately be like an assistant that helps you do things faster. But in reality it is like unfair competition for other artists. The same will happen with companies. The most powerful will have advanced AI while the weak ones will not, and that will make the competition even more overwhelming.
AI is a revolution and really useful for many tasks (I use it in programming). But it is already eliminating many jobs and humans will not have enough to eat. This is already happening.
If you know how it works, AI will be able to compose even better than humans in the not-too-distant future. It will only be necessary to give it the right orders. It will be overwhelming, and this is being controlled by powerful companies, who only seek money at all costs, skipping all ethical rules if necessary. It is very easy to direct the masses of people, and they know it.
I don’t want to be a pest, but soon we will see AI singer profiles on social media with songs made 100% by AI, and people will follow them as if they were humans. Prepare your minds to face these situations.
I think governments will have to start redirecting taxes. If a worker doesn’t use AI, they will pay no taxes or very little. If a company uses AI, they will have to pay a lot of taxes. Merging robotics with AI is going to be a steamroller in the near future.
Humans will have to be more critical and praise originality and cancel products sold made by AI. Unfortunately, I don’t think this will happen.
But… but… can AI make a new version of Renoise?
it’s like meat, people couldn’t give a rats arse where it comes from so long as it ends up on there plate. ai competes with the slave labor they try and get people to do which is slightly interesting, you could probably train a model to do quality checking… but they will still import a polish guy that works for half as much as you willing to work in far poorer conditions as you would to do the taste testing.
as for proving you made the music i think showing the renoise project file would work pretty well, or uploading a youtube video of your dawless performance. enjoy the gear costs sky rocketing maybe… but people will still continue to type into the ai “trance banger” and people will listen to it on youtube on there way to work without caring where it came from since music is largely background music to all the people that are not obsessed to death with the amen break.
Its so sad and true. Ultimately I will continue to avoid AI, its either plagiaristically trained or yet another tool to replace people for profit. If people are so insecure that they need AI then let them, it isnt art and there is no achievement to be had at all.
Ive worked hard to be aggressively mediocre lol, Im still proud of my mediocrity because its all me. Its my expression.
If people say its a tool, then fine, if youre using it to do simple stuff like drums then honestly, just make the drums it isnt hard. If your main hook was made with AI and thats the final element that elevates a track then you didnt make a good track - you laid the groundwork and let a machine finish it. So either, its replacing laziness or making the main creative choice - either way is fucked.
What next? Asking AI to finish Dark Souls for you? Asking AI to catfish a partner over the internet. None of it is an achievement and for me its a sign of the decline of society in most cases.
Line must go up. At any cost. And im sick to fucking death of it already.
