I don’t know in other countries, but in Spain, all patients are treated the same way, rigorously due to their “clinical status”. Depending on the clinical state, if triage is required at the most critical moment (for lack of resources), a person will never be abandoned because of age, but because of his or her clinical state. This is very clear in my country. In Spain we value all lives equally. Every time an old man overcomes the coronavirus, it’s like a double triumph here. We are especially sensitive here.
And another piece of information about my country. In Spain, all patients have the right to public health. You don’t need health insurance (although you can have a private staff). This is covered by the nation’s taxes. No Spaniard will receive a bill of thousands of dollars after spending a couple of weeks in the hospital. But I’ll tell you one thing. I wish China had clearly warned us of what was to come. Almost no country treated this issue with due seriousness and China did not properly inform the foreigner either. Others say that ways of life are going to change. I do not believe it. Although solidarity flourishes more than ever, most people are individualistic, competing, or believe in things to ease their conscience. Will all this change? I do not think so at all.
But hey, first we have to overcome this pandemic, and I think this will be very long.
Any health system in a city (a city is not a whole country) with many inhabitants can very easily collapse at some point with an epidemic like this, where thousands of patients must be cared for. New York city is a clear example. The concern is not NY (that also), but other states also have large entire cities, which should be armored right now. What happens in NY can happen in another similar city if there is no comprehensive prevention. That’s what’s troubling.
In Spain, Madrid has been the hardest hit city, and now something similar (not so strong) is happening in the Community of Catalonia. And this is happening 3 weeks after having confined the entire national population. He is being especially sad because in Spain there is a lot of older population, population at risk. Most people who die are especially old people. But there are also very old people 80, 90 or 100 years old who have survived the coronavirus after going through respirators. Is incredible!
What I mean by all this is that, the problem had developed three or four weeks before, when nothing was apparently happening. I am seeing that in the US there are states in this situation now. Apparently there is no problem, but it is now when people get infected without knowing it. In two or three weeks the most difficult situation will come, where the coronavirus will start to grow in other “apparently clean” states now. This is the worrying thing. And so with all the countries in the world where the virus is now spreading.

If people don’t pay attention and ask hard question now, this may never be over, just like the restructuring and endless war that began with 9/11 is still in progress. The boon that was given to totalitarian tendencies then has never been rolled back, and right now too many people are in “confused, heads down, myopic, obedient” mode. I don’t mean “don’t take all the prescribed precautions”, but this can’t be everything, to just sit it out and let the foxes fuck around some more in the chicken coop.
If that’s all people do, I can predict 3 outcomes a.) the poor and helpless will be exploited and murdered by “incompetence” en masse, b.) surveillance and behaviour control will be fully normalized and expand into every area of life c.) a vast shift of wealth towards the already wealthy.
I mean, Hungary just became a dictatorship, IN THE EU, and we don’t even notice nor care, because Corona, and the EPA suspended enforcement of all environmental laws literally because of corona, or rather, using it as an excuse.
You might say, while you watch out for your fever or cough, there’s like a dozen of other things arraying to get you, and everyone after you, either way. You can call it hyperbole (though trust me, I’m not fearful or hysteric or anything like that, just bored and critical and maybe a bit of a misanthrope, that is, I love people when they are in front of me as individuals, but I hate them when I think about them on my own, when I think about society and history and how it all develops I’m beyond pissed off), but is it totally wrong? Corona is nothing compared to what the collapse of ecosystems as result of climate change might entail, and depending on how you look at it, we a.) already are VERY lazy and lame, half-ass it all and fart around, stream bullshit and play games and b.) pat ourselves on the back for that, because “life is hard and covid19 is scary”. Sorry for being so caustic, I don’t mean anyone ill, and I accept that it doesn’t make me seem like a very likeable person – but I just want to shout at the world, I want to fucking shake it. This is not good enough.
I will glad to be proven wrong, but because that’s what I see an inkling of already, I just wanted to put it to the record now. We’ll see how the above ages going forward.

For a country president, this situation is extremely delicate and difficult.
There may be several reasons behind:
- Upcoming elections. Some powerful political leaders prefer to shield their party rather than solve problems. This is happening with Merkel, and probably with Trump.

- Preserve the economy above all else. If there is a loss of money, it is not the fault of the central government. Let each state lose money on its own. This is how elections are won, thus deceiving the population.
- Saturation because of the events (lack of preparation).
- Cowardice. For a commander person, it must be enormous pressure. Politicians are not prepared to face pandemics.
In fact he is smart enough to win votes. He said he would make respirators and help certain EU countries, shipping US-made respirators now. But he knows that he will not be able to send them, because the US will need them sooner. With the word it looks good, knowing that he will not send them. He is very clever.

All countries in the world must solve this problem as quickly as possible. Otherwise, the economy will be a disaster in a few months, worldwide, even for countries that have successfully soported the virus. It is unsustainable to have borders closed for months.
Day that passes without taking action, is a prolonged disaster within 3-4 weeks. The general population is not prepared to move freely on the streets during a pandemic. It will be very worrying what happens after the confinement. We must also prepare for this second phase. And a second strong wave for any country or state would destroy it economically. Any leader should listen to the experts!
My particular concern is my country, obviously. But I am also very concerned about the rest of the countries in the world. If the rest of the countries are not well (they have solved the problem of the coronavirus), my country and my neighboring countries will not be well either. I honestly think everyone should think like this now.
This is taking the thread off-topic a bit but basically it comes down to one thing. If Trump does not get re-elected this year, he will lose the “protection” of his office. He will then be exposed to a fair number of prosecutable court cases, both civil and criminal, many of which are on hold currently because our courts can’t prosecute a sitting president.
The only people I know of in the US who think he’s clever are his voter base which is less than 50% of the country thankfully. The rest of us are not impressed …
paraphrasing: there will be recovery from the pandemic and a recession, but there would be no recovery from the destruction of the enironment or the destruction of democracy.

Whenever there is a crisis, you HAVE to watch for the vultures. Otherwise all this talk about fear and struggle is just lip service – it’s fear and struggle in a circus, to avoid the responsibilities of seeing what some are doing while the rest runs in circles. Using the “lunatic fringe” and “conspiracy theorists” as an excuse to do that means benefitting from them, to excuse one’s own misdeeds. So in summary, nothing here is new at all, it’s just a new opportunity to display the same dysfunctions that have been documented for decades.
