Covid-19 (Corona virus)

You don’t seem to understand, so i assume you’re an american, but in europe we have civil rights that involves economical support for those in need. By using the civil wages system we would eliminate the cost of the bureaucratic wellfare systems we have today, so at least in theory the rich would have to pay less. I’m not talking about getting a lot of money for doing nothing, it’s just to survive, which is already your civil right.

LOL. You’re wrong. And the US also has a welfare system, too, by the way. I know it sucks even worse than in Europe but to pretend they outright don’t have any such concept is just silly.

You don’t seem to understand that a bunch of dozen people own like most of the wealth. As long as that keeps getting WORSE, however you distribute the breadcrumbs that are left doesn’t really matter, will make no meaningful difference compared to what ought to be – and even the “waste” of a “complicated” welfare is very minor compared to that. Yet it’s the elephant on the couch we simply won’t touch, or even look at earnestly.

Economical support for those in need is one thing, those who are sick or disabled or unfortunate – but EVERYBODY AND THEIR DOG being in need and with their back against the wall because we all get squeezed so hard, that is an entirely different matter. That must not be resolved via charity, which by definition entails dependence.

I’m not saying we should give money to dogs or that people should be incouraged to sit doing nothing. The civil wages must be a part of the salary you get from working and the less time you would have to deal with the wellfare system the more time you have on finding or creating jobs. This could lead to people taking more risks starting their own businesses and so on. It’s not like the majority of people prefers to sit down and be as unproductive as possible.

I’m not saying we should give money to dogs or that people should be incouraged to sit doing nothing.

And I’m saying we absolutely could, if only we stopped avoiding the elephant on the couch. Emphasis mine:

If machines produce everything we need, the outcome will depend on how things are distributed. Everyone can enjoy a life of luxurious leisure if the machine-produced wealth is shared, or most people can end up miserably poor if the machine-owners successfully lobby against wealth redistribution. So far, the trend seems to be toward the second option, with technology driving ever-increasing inequality.

– Stephen Hawking

Yeah, collectively it’s usually termed “a safety net” and it gets used as a “political football” during election years. Not much “safety” in it when one doesn’t know if and how the current administration is going to manipulate it for their own advantage.

Bros in the future machines will do all the work, computing will design and controll them without humans needing to sweat, maybe just some have to take care everything runs smooth. If we do it right, the machines will support what every human on this rock needs to be alive and busy, and people will be there and live just for sake of getting happy and fulfilling their dreams.

All fuzz before that is realised is just transitinary hickups. Capitalism is also just some transitionary state in evolution of civilisation imho.

I’m also convinced of the idea it would be possible for advanced computing to find a cure for frkn covid or any other disease. Even for capitalism.

For you youngsters who missed out on the psychedelic 60’s, Zager and Evans covered our future in a song called “In the Year 2525”. In my 63 years on this rock, It ain’t happened yet.

"In The Year 2525 (Exordium And Terminus)"

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find

In the year 3535
Ain’t gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do and say
Is in the pill you took today

In the year 4545
Ain’t gonna need your teeth, won’t need your eyes
You won’t find a thing to chew
Nobody’s gonna look at you

In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your legs got nothing to do
Some machine is doing that for you

In the year 6565
Ain’t gonna need no husband, won’t need no wife
You’ll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube, whoa

In the year 7510
If God’s a-comin’ he ought to make it by then
Maybe he’ll look around himself and say
Guess it’s time for the Judgement day

In the year 8510
God is gonna shake his mighty head then
He’ll either say I’m pleased where man has been
Or tear it down and start again, woah woah

In the year 9595
I’m kinda wondering if man is gonna be alive
He’s taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain’t put back nothing, woah woah

Now it’s been 10,000 years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man’s reign is through

But through eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it’s only yesterday …

I hope that this situation will bring us closer together again as a society at least.

But since people tend to forget about that kind of things afterwards rather quickly, i fear that only capitalism and greed are surviving here.

Take care people.

On top of that, the frequency of epidemics continues to rise.
Due to global warming, virus vectors can spread further and faster.

And our children will have to deal with that. Go figure.

Well, might be correct that people should care for not spreading infection. On the other hand, there are only 25000 intensive beds in Germany, but Germany has 82.000.000 habitants. Let’s do some basic maths for Germany (I hope I do it right ), here the numbers:

  • 82.000.000 habitants
  • 25000 intensive beds
  • One bed can be available for 6 intensive cases per year (a corona treatment takes ~8 weeks)
  • They say that 70% of all people will get the infection
  • 6% will be intensive cases

So:
82.000.000 * 0.7 * 0.06 = 3.444.000 people will need intensive treatment

6 * 25000 = 150000 can be treated per year

3.444.000 / 150000 = ~23 years it would require

So obviously the number of beds are way, way, way too low. Also a doubling won’t help very much. It is a start at least, since 80% of those 25000 beds actually are used right now.

If the number of infections reaches ~410000, people cannot be treated anymore. Since 80% of the beds are used, the number is much lower.

I totally agree.

btw. where did you get those numbers?
Thanks!

I am not 100% sure about most, but from lot of places, articles. Pretty hard to find anything useful at all, since media flooded the internet with bullshit content about corona.

That´s why i was asking.

Ok let’s try again, can’t find the above references completely anymore:

Based on these numbers:
53 weeks / 4,5 weeks = 11 cases per year per place
11 * 28000 = 308000 cases a year max.

28000 / 0.06 = a max. of 466666 infections at once could be managed, assuming all of 28000 beds were available
308000 / 0.06 = a max. of 5.130.000 infections a year could be managed, assuming all of 28000 beds were available

Assuming there are only 21% of 28000 places available, 98000 infections at once can be managed only.

Please correct me, if you find mistakes.

Monday will be Germany wide ban.

I’m listening to the advice of this guy, Dr. Fauci, here in the States. He’ s the only one I’ve found who seems to know what’s going on and doesn’t mind being honest and straightforward with it.
