Renoise 3 speculation thread

Sure! I think I can share some information without being struck by the lightning (quick glance out the window - seems good).

First of all, scripting will NOT be dropped. Without scripting, Renoise would simply not be the same - it sort of levels the playing field, and allow a lot of “niche” features to become implemented by the community without turning the core application into a complete mess. IMHO, dropping scripting support just like that would be to piss on the people that have lifted Renoise to new heights - especially the people who have spent time developing the scripts, but also the people who have come to rely on the features they represent.

And yes, existing tools will “largely” work. So there will be changes here and there - some things can automatically be upgraded by Renoise itself, other things that will break. And, the API will contain additional things to script (let the speculation commence/continue)

Thanks guys! Appreciated!!

Renoise 3.0’s biggest feature will be a renoise dev newsfeed, auto-updated at least once a week. ;)

Also the Modplug Tracker has a VSTi version and VSTi support :)

I think v3 will enable Audio and Midi routing to the same extent you can already with meta devices. Also the formula device will become official and allow for audio rate processing which means we can build our own audio effects oscillators etc.

It kinda makes Sense/Net, but i’m not really that surprised about those socks and undies i get from aunt. I hope Renoise will not be full of socks and undies. :P

It is not obvious at all that this is the case, and statements as such make no sense what so ever (That isn’t directed at you personally by the way even though i quoted you, but to everybody making these wild claims with no information.
The developers have stated that they have had to make big changes to the codebase and from now on that updates will be coming at a slower pace, that is pretty much all the info they have given, if you look at the latest Maschine V2, it is a complete rewrite that does less than the previous version, why ? because they had to completely rewrite the code base to have the ability to support features in the near and far future, that could well be the case with Renoise 3 (I am not saying that it is the case because i have no clue, just like you)

Lets all keep in mind here that this is not a big time commercial set up like Bitwig or Il or Ableton or even Cockos, Renoise is a hobby project and if everybody kept that in mind they might have less heartache waiting for the next update.
THESE GUYS DO NOT DO THIS FOR A LIVING IT IS A PAST TIME AND IN THESE ECONOMIC TIMES PASTIMES SOMETIMES GET PUT ON HOLD/TAKE LONGER!

This is not true. At least 1-2 people are working full time on the project, that’s what I read not so long ago in the forums. Will check if I can find the post though…

yes, there are people who work on a full-time basis for Renoise, others who work part-time, and others (like me and almost all the alpha testers) who do it on voluntary basis in the spare-time

Did i mention the new Releasedatealyzer DSP? A new DSP in Renoise 3.0 tells us exactly when it’s going to be released!

I can’t keep it to myself any longer, here’s an exclusive sneak-peek!

If this is happening and it’s released before christmas I’m going to lock myself in during the holidays until I completely master every aspect of reblennoise.

Okaaaaay! Now for THIS baby I think it makes sense to wait patiently another couple of months!

Strangely enough, with all this waiting and speculating, I suddenly realized Renoise as it is now, has everything I need from a DAW. Since that epiphany had struck me coupla weeks ago, I’ve made like 10+ songs. And already made several street performances. Dude, I don’t need Renoise 3! What a relief! :guitar:

Yeah I feel like a lot of people rely on new releases to ignite a little bit of inspiration or feel like a new release will suddenly make them a great musician or producer. I also feel that Renoise is in great shape and if it never changed I would be happy and able to produce great tracks. It not so much what the daw can do but rather what you can do with the daw. In reality restrictions often make things shine. Work with the tools you’ve got. Be happy :) I love Renoise and it’s devs and will patiently wait and if it never comes, well that’s life.

The only thing I fear is that renoise 3.0 will be a totally different from 2.8 …still a tracker , but crammed with features that eat only resources and don’t improve on the workflow …
But yeah, since every release to date has been an improvement I guess 3.0 will be too .
We’ll see in a couple of months (6 to be exact )

I’ve just been leaked a press-only sneak peak of a major new feature everyone was requesting…

I really hope that the developer’s didn’t do a vertical piano rol …would be the most counter intuitive thing ever , I know buzz does and Aodix …but ffs …NO way
Piano rolls work horizontally , trackers vertically , combining these is the way of the dodo

As long as they add key commands I’m cool with whatever they do with the interface.

But… but pianos don’t run up and down, how is it counter intuitive? To me its counter intuitive for a piano roll to have its piano run up and down the left side of your screen. I like the way that… piano teaching program I can’t remember the name of does it.
