ok I’m in. Dev, plz !
No they are working full-time, hence version updates really must include valuable features. This also comes with some disadvantages for the script writers like me, meaning a huge list with changes that require manual conversions for existing tools.
Martinal actually started coding on the Piano Roll years ago, but he is already out for a long time, so don’t expect the Pianoroll to come very soon.
A Windows 8 app would go nicely with my Surface 2
Lies! Lies and confusion!
Since this is the most viewed threat now, and I don’t get an answer elsewhere I have a question. Renoise is a team but taktik is clearly the driving force behind the project.
So my question is: What will happen to Renoise if Taktik (Eduard Mueller) abandoned it or, maybe a bit lugubrious, dies? are there preventative measures for such a scenario?
Actually it’s no good developing style to change/break existing interfaces. So I hope that Renoise 3.0 will be downwards-compatible as far as possible.
The scripting will probably enable people to write their own piano roll style UIs tho.
For a lot of stuff you only need to adjust naming conventions (find and replace all), the actual function itself did not really changed, however, because they involve objects, these things Renoise cannot securely convert because it doesn’t know in advance what you use from it or not if you attach the objects to user defined variables. Also Renoise will tell you exactly for what reasons it shut down your tool (which functions are no longer compatible) in the log-file like it did by the previous change. For the other changes, i cannot speak now but you will find out on Beta release.
All right, so you were just joking, after all…
Now there’s actually an interesting scenario that few people seem to have considered in this speculation thread: The developers could actually have used portions of the Renoise source code to build entire new products, separate from Renoise itself.
Just to mention a few examples:
-
A samples-only .xrns player: implement on servers to play Renoise songs (using no external plugins) directly in forums etc - just transform and feed new xml into it dynamically to allow people to build new online services.
-
A lightweight VSTi version of Renoise, focusing on being used as an advanced sample manipulation plugin in other hosts.
-
A new pianoroll based DAW with linear arranger etc, with the possibility to load/save .xrns files and midi files - or connect directly to Renoise through ReWire or some own internal link
-
An interactive Renoise Tutorial version, where users could build interactive lessons similar to Codecademy for faster learning
-
Apps for iOS/Android etc - such as a lightweight version of Renoise where you could polish on some stuff on the go and just send it back into Renoise desktop version
Et cetera…
Oh i just got an OFFICIAL information about renoise 3.0 : Keyboard and mouse will be supported !!!
Isn’t dblue (Kieran Foster) a big part of Renoise development these days? Taktik is certainly well known as a pivotal member of the dev team.
There are probably a number of less-forum-vocal contributors/developers that are very much driving the project forward as well though, right?
vV mentioned that at least two coders work full time on the project, probably that would be taktik and dblue - dunno.
There have been others onboard in the past, such as martinal. I also think this guy is (or at least was) involved as developer for the 2.5-2.8 versions, don’t really know anything about what he coded or if he’s still involved in 3.0. Then we have kRAkEn/gORe , who coded stuff like for example the plugin-grabber, the orignal stutter device, the signal follower device, the X/Y-pad…don’t know if he’s still onboard either.
EDIT: No, sorry, vV didn’t mention it - can’t seem to find that info
Built in tutorials …give me a break .
Reminds me of this guy at the NI reaktor forum , who suggested a feature that allowed the user to view you tube tutorials from within reaktor …f…n hilarious .
Kraken /gore also did the cabinet drive and multitap delay ( hopefully delay times are interpolated in 3.0 …for real tape style echos.
.
o yeah!
I’ve hoped something like this would happen one of these days. These portable OS’ have been around long enough and the only trackers are Milkytracker and SunVox, both of which are still cluttered ported versions of the desk top programs. It’d be nice to see a tracker made just for tablet and small phone touch screens, even if it were basic in design.
No idea why people are talking about piano rolls, Renoise is a tracker and from its previous record of releases that is all the devs ever want it to be, it is about time people get used to that, there are plenty of DAWs that Renoise has no chance of ever catching up with in those other areas, just go use one of them.
I agree Bungle and ideally that is perfect for most of us, but I think a piano roll editor could expand the user base dramatically and help fund future growth.
I speculate Renoise 4 has a piano rrroll
i have been thinking about this… would be great. i use sunvox on my phone more than i use renoise atm. a lightweight version which would only handle samples and export to xrns would be quite cool. a tool for rough composing in the early stages of writing a track.
