If voting needs registration anyway, maybe restrict it to current renoise forum users? Simply people have to use the same username.
I don’t mind if I may not vote, as long as I may listen to the results!

voting for forum members only, as effdeekay said, i agree on that one. reasonably safe and since this stuff is only advertised on the forum it is a fine solution i think.
I wonder that myself, should we vote before listening?
I will enable voting once organic io posts the vote pack. Also, I’ll need to know if the brackets will be changed before anyone can vote.
Can’t wait!
Sorry, votepack coming shortly.
So you mean I may not have to be head to head with Keith303? Hey, if you guys are all wanting to shuffle the brackets, that’s fine with me.
Oh! Suddenly, this competition got more dangerous… Well, we can do that.
Or, we could just rearrange those without an opponent.
Or! Stick with the rules and the current line-up, and then whoever has the most total votes won’t have to compete in the odd rounds, from round 3 until the final. (not competing in a round doesn’t give any votes, so that person will prob. have to fight in the next round).
Here I go, complicating things again…
This is what I’d suggest
Agreed, that sounds perfect.
OK, the no shows were: magOwl, cat hero, protman, and Ludamillion
Their opponents were: Andy:Ray, cralias, lapubell, and Robbie S… So you will be bracketed against each other.
Random.org determines that it will be:
Andy:Ray vs Robbie S
and
lapubell vs cralias
Let me redo the spreadsheet real quick and then I’ll post the vote links!
Vote links!!!
Make sure to turn up the volume if you need to on any entries that may be quieter. Let’s not judge based on volume.

Good luck everybody! I’m looking forward to hearing all the entries.
Voting is now available at: http://www.chotoro.fi/knockout/
Voting is available to all Renoise forum users!
If you have submitted a song, please make sure that your handle or username is the same as what it says on the front page (don’t worry, I’ll be double-checking and adjusting if necessary). This is just to avoid having to manually check any votes.
Voting in your own bracket is currently not allowed (i.e. not for your opponent either), but we could allow that if people prefer…
If you’re not participating, please use your forum name as handle, or else I won’t have your votes counted in the end.
It’s a bit makeshift, as you might expect, so the honour system is still in full effect!
Also, let me know if you find any nasty bugs, or have any suggestions.
Song comments time!!! (I encourage everybody else to comment as well so we can give each other constructive feedback)

Impressive song length you managed here… This is one of the longer songs. Very nice vibe and atmosphere. Nice funky lead melody. I especially like the grace notes. I think the song could use some variation around the 2:40 mark. Still, with respect to the time limit, this is very nicely done.

Awesome. I don’t think I’ve ever heard your music before, but I’ll have to check out more. This is really creative. It has a minimal approach to percussion, but still the percussion is effective. The song has a lot of potential, I think you could flesh this out into a much longer full production. Keep up the good work.

Dude… for a guy who has only been tracking a few months, not too bad at all! You’ve got to have some previous songwriting or instrument playing experience, right? Nice melody and chord progression with the lead, although it’s got an undesirable lofi characteristic to it. Perhaps too much distortion? Admittedly I haven’t actually looked at the xrns yet… But a suggestion may be to try adding some reverb/delay to it instead. Regarding the last 20 seconds, awesome idm-ishness on the beat… Well done, I’d like to hear more of this

Nice and funky. Makes me feel like I’m in a avante garde jazz club or something. Good melodies and percussion. My favorite part is the syncopated “tap tap tap, tap tap” with the snare… Love it. I think the song loses steam near the end with the oriental sounding outro… Still, you’ve definitely got your own personal style going with this song. Very well done.
Robbie S -
Really good stuff, this. I love the epic droning synths. Atmosphere so thick you could cut it with a knife… Solid melodies. Very chilled out. I don’t have anything bad to say about this except it’s too short!!!
Andy:Ray -
Wait, how do you expect me to decide between this and Robbie’s??? This is also really good. Definitely has your characteristic style, Andy… Except I forgot to include a crash in the samplepack so you couldn’t do that reverse cymbal rush thing A bit demosceney sounding, but that’s not a bad thing at all. Really great melody work and great use of pattern effects… Really well done for 3 hours, and one of the best I’ve heard from you! I’m going to listen to it a few more times.
That’s it for now, I’ll post more comments later.
Edit: I’d also like to mention that Renoise’s new EQ’s where you can drag the dots around are really great! It’s so quick to use it to roll off the low and high end and then adjust what’s necessary in the middle. No more need for a separate high pass filter & EQ
Last 20 minutes How long was the song? To write one that long in 3 hours and it not get boring is surely impossible
Oops… I meant to say seconds… Changing now!
Challenge accepted.
Another compo idea perhaps?
I made a tune that never ends in one evening, so it should be possible
Yeah I did think about algorithmic/random-generator based music as being a possible way to do just that. But to do that from scratch with little previous experience would be very hard, whereas probably possible if you already know the techniques.
Although the comment was “last 20 minutes” implying it is only the last section and thus the song itself was a lot longer doesn’t matter. 20mins is probably enough of a challenge
goddamn some of those were hard decisions to make. and damn you keith303 for submitting just the xrns and forcing me to watch all your sliders move around and breaking my head over some of the routing you did there. in 3 hours, seriously? you know very well how to make something sound good.
a big thank you to all participants in this first round. it is really cool to hear what people come up with in just 3 hours. there was no crappy track among them.
Is there a voting deadline? Great tracks everyone, and some of the matches are damn close!
@endless songs: I think duration isn’t the hard part, the problem is not being boring.
