Strp Festival

Legendary. Unforgettable. It was not only awesome because of the epic
line-up, but meeting Void Pointer and sharing the party with all my good
friends made the experience an adventure of biblical proportions!
Too bad though that only Charly Linch and I had our Renoise T’s on ;)

After a big failed gig with Squarepusher in Amsterdam some months
ago, I finally had the chance to see his act PROPERLY this time: up
front, with enough room to bounce like a baboon. Massive intensity, like
a neverending climax, especially when he did Angstrom Feck 4 I was
simply BLOWN off my freaking SOCKS. Killer.

Aphex Twin had nothing to do with Aphex Twin, except that it was over
the top insane. The man seems to become victim of his own legend or
something, I guess… Don’t know… It was nothing too special actually,
though still a very very good set, but you could’ve put up DJ Anonym
and let him do the same, with those visuals anything would be
considered insane. Holy shit.

Tim Exile was the most interesting, the way he improvises his sets is so
crazy and intense, the way he manipulates sounds… phew…! Creating the
craziest basslines simply by shouting in a microphone! This was only the
second time I saw him live and it was just as fresh as the first.

Venetian Snares was surprising! Forget what Charly sayd, his acid was
definately awesome! Turning up the intensity of the 303 up seven
notches with intense beatwork, slowely working his way towards a
tsunami of speedcore-ish insanity, in the end drowning the room in a
massive noise… Yeah, I’m a (subjective) fanboy, but I was genuinely
impressed and can’t wait to hear Filth in all its glory.

All in all, it was one of the most awesome parties I’ve ever been to!
I feel sorry for anyone who couldn’t attend, so let me rub this in:
YOU MISSED OUT BIATCHES, MUAHAHA!! :D

I’m to old for this festival shit :) .

Sold out, so many, many people there…half hour to 45 minutes waiting to buy drinking coins/credits. Got home at around 4.00 clock, didn’t stay long enough to check funckarma, snares & Benga unfortunately, my ears were, are dead tired from hearing an overdose of music at high volume since 19.00 yesterday. I thought squarepusher was terrible loud & most of it awesome at the same time , overall I enjoyed his set most (could lose some of the bass wanking, but I guess that is his thing :) )…too many people, no fresh air, sweat dripping from the sealing, girl fainting in front of me + terrible mixing at the back ruined the aphex set for me, there were to many people to quickly move around to a better spot. Basically you were trapped, and were I was stationed the latency of drums colliding from the front of the hall to the back killed any groove. At times it worked and I could appreciate the multi channel set-up collab with hecker, but I lost interest very quickly and moved on to hudson mowhawk, or whats his name, in the other hall. Nice to see some turntable mixing. He threw in that genuine 'pony track and got my girl doing the butterfly which always is a +. Luke Vibert did his normal dj’ing thing, was ok, tim exile did some very cool stuff building tracks with his mouth, rustie…didn’t stay long enough to judge.

MMMmm, mixed feelings…had a great time with friends, wouldn’t want to miss it, but somehow am disappointed. Either the venue should be bigger or less people should be let in. There should be more drinking credit stands, bigger openings between halls to walk through, plus regarding volume of sound, sometimes less is more! Painful distortion in some of the frequencies at times. Good lesson to invest in some ear protection! I think I lost another batch of hair cells.

Great though, to see that there is still so much interest in this ’ kind of music’ :) .

No offense Jonas, but you knew it was gonna be crowded/hot/loud and all that. What do you expect with a line-up like this? If you don’t like that you shouldn’t have come imo ;)

Of course… the best part still was Jordy performing Stuffed Animals live :w00t: Someone should’ve filmed that!

fair enough, I guess it comes with festival territory. Only been to outdoor festivals and the 2006 edition of STRP which was a lot more laid back. Being press there Saturday, I sometimes wanted to be at 2 halls at the same time to soak everything in, which is even impossible with no crowd at all :)

Void Pointer, Benefit of the Boomerang, Charly Linch
enjoying bottled water at strp :P
