multiout VSTi support -> play notes on one channel and route the different outs to different sendchannels, should be enough.
-
This beatslicer thing. I have alot of drum/instrument loops I currently chop up, would be great to just load them, set markers, use the markers (preferrably with different notes instead of a channel-command, too much typing and you won’t be able to use this with a midi-keyboard)

Pianoroll or any other way to make the use of long samples easier.

working midi sync (as host and slave)

this improvement to the automate device we discussed in another thread (renoise autolearning CCs)
What does currently not work for you?
I think it’s the latency when you’re trying to sync software like fruityloops with renoise.
well, its the “jumping around” … I tried shortly with cubase and extensively with live, and it doesnt really work either way. syncing renoise to live is working partly (but not perfect), syncing live to renoise is going completely wrong … the bpms just glitch around, samples get triggered twice and similar … I mean, I am not the only one, there are quite a few reports about this on the board, right ? And I wrote you a rather large mail about this some time ago, taktik, did you get it ?! (It was mainly about this reaktor/energy thing and the part that the groove setting plays in this.)
- Audio Tracks
- Arranger
- Better automation curves like in Adobe Premier Pro
- More customising options to the interface, such as transparency.
- Nibbles.
The ability to deattach the mixer (or any other components) to use it on the second display.
Ah yeah. Sorry. There was something. Let me answer this one later…
What about making Dx moze accurate (to FF or FFF) ? It might be usefull while playing live…
That’s more or less exactly my wishlist too. Especially a XY-MetaDevice would be really great. All of my most used synths have one or even more XY-Pads on it, which can’t be automated properly currently.
Other very little helpers:
- rightclick of enabling/disabling an effect could be recorded to a pattern command
- same goes for lfo device waveforms and filter2 device filters
- also nice would be an invert waveform feature at the lfo device, so i can use it for panning two different tracks at the same time in different directions
MIDI TRIGGERING VST EFFECTS, some effects require this (read effects …not instruments )

just remembered one : put the option for “record velocities” on the gui, I change this rather often, disabling it when doing drums and enabling it for the other stuff. a small little button somewhere would be great.
Yep, I know it’s been suggested that it should be an independent setting for each instrument.
Love this thread.
IT-aliens suggestion called velocity device seems to not have gotten any traction here but I think it is one of the most radical features suggested and is probably one of the easiest to implement.
This would be used by me pretty much 90% of the times when using ANY vst-instrument and I think most trackers are not so unlike me.
The reason
When tracking the notes for a piano with youre keyboard you get the maxiumvelocity by default (80) (I.e this is the equalient of someone hammering as hard as possible on the piano, violin, drumset etc).
Today there is no way to hear a softer tone until you put the tone in a track and then write a velocity on that note and then play the pattern.
In short:
The velocity device should take a tone and apply a multiplier on the velocity, wether the tone comes from MIDI, pattern or “keyboardjammming”.
If I understand correctly this is what IT-alien also meant.
The other most radical changes I think is
- Freezing (a device with a “use rendered sample”/“use notes” switch)
- PluginDelayCompensation (a device with a slider with a ticksamount)
- Support for multiple threads (use the other 50% of that new CPU)
velocity device… i forgot it! if you mean something like knobs in reason’s synth has (settings for what will happen if velocity is low or high) then i agree with you in 100%
It would be nice to have software keyzones for instruments (if rns already has it please correct me)
I almost forgot: track command for switching looping on/off on xx instrument YY sample
I’m not really after any DAW-like functions - I think the work-flow and style is perfect as it is…
Two things which I’d like though:
- Ableton Live 6 has these great Instrument Racks… An Instrument Rack is like a user-definable chain of plug-ins, which can include VSTi’s, with a compact interface with 8 user-definable controls…
I hate working with softsynths, but there’s a few which have the odd nice sound I like to use… So I might open Absynth and make a really useful pad sound - then open an EQ and get it sounding mixable - then maybe a chorus, reverb, etc. fiddly, shitty stuff I hate doing when I’m trying to make music… But I can just drop all of this into an Instrument Rack - choose 8 key controls I want to be able to change: Attack, Release, Filter, Cut-off, Effects, Detune, etc. name it “Horse Pad”, and then I’ve got a quick pad on tap whenever I need it… I just load up Horse Pad and I’ve got a standard pad sound with enough basic control to suit most needs, and it’s a quick set-and-forget device… This has revolutionized my music making tbh… Even better is when you’ve got complex FM instruments to synthesize drums and things - you can pick out key parameters which change the weight and snap of the sound without having to mess with pages of FM crap every time you want to alter your bass drum.
- Quick beat chopper…
Simply a dividable ruler on the wave display would make a world of difference… Divide into 16th’s then I could tighten the break up quickly using cut & paste…
But better than that: get your ruler up; adjust the points manually; then press Egg Slicer… it’s just cut your break up into however many pieces and spread them across the keyboard, from middle C or something…
Wouldn’t have thought this’d be too difficult to implement… Certainly wouldn’t take any longer than recycle considering it’s just a button and a few mouse clicks away… An auto-beat detect could be cool, but wouldn’t make much difference to me…
Bonus 3rd:
I don’t really like any VST FM synths… But FM’s so useful… In an ideal world I’d have some kind of flexible, maybe modular, but straight forward, FM synth built into Renoise… Open an oscillator and you’ve got a simple wave generator - responds over MIDI - sine, saw, noise, square waves - tuning - output to: amp, or another oscillator… Then you open an envelope; it’s a separate module; click from a drop down menu what you want it to control: osc1 frequency, osc1 amplitude… Sort of thing… Variable control rate! So I can have a really high control rate on percussion sounds that need it…
Yes thats the one. On synths you can usually tie the velocity to a filter parameter for or similar.
Ok, I basically just hijacked BYTE-Smasher’s list and shortened it down, but here goes, my five:
- Track freezing, so that with the click of one button, Renoise will render the output of a track to a temporary sample (not a visible instrument) and use that for playback until the track is unfrozen again (This would save my processor, 4realz)
- Audio tracks, so that long samples such as vocals will play properly starting anywhere in a song b[/b]
These three probably concern me the most:
- Proper device routing… so that you can create complex, layered effect chains, mix channels, etc
- More metadevides, such as a sidechain metadevice, more LFO options, etc
- Stereo sample editing… right or left channel editing, % based mix paste, etc
it would be nice to automate instrument envolpes - espiecially for filters.
1- beats in beatsync to go up to at least 512, higher if possible.
2- pattern sequencer that is less one-dimensional, ie: it allows me to have multiple pattern arrangments and switch between them and move them around.
3- pattern commands to control VSTi parameters
4- autohide option for top and bottom panels
5- option to split a single sample into multiple ones that correspond to a given pattern length
6- Impulse Tracker style pattern gate effect (Ixx in IT). In renoise once you use 04xx it cuts the sample for the rest of the current row. IT let do I22 for ‘on’ 2 ticks ‘off’ 2 ticks and then ‘on’ again for 2 more. This was a usefule effect for me, but no one else seems to give a f****. I guess that’s why it’s number 6 ona list of five
