Sure you can argue I look at it the wrong way. But that’s just the way I see it (be it right or wrong.) When I was very young (with my Amiga 500 and Octamed) and I sat for a few hours quickly ‘writing’ out a ‘musical idea’ I knew that I was not very good at it. I never underestimated music and how difficult it is to just simply write (not corny/not boring) coherent structured music. I never once blamed/questioned Octamed software or the Amiga for my inability to do that. That’s the way I see it.

More of the question is: does Renoise (Bitwig/Ableton/Cubase/Whatever) limit your musical artistic integrity? So in the case of Renoise…by not having VST3 support or ‘sidechain’ audio routing are you limited? Well in my case it is no. For me, it’s nice to have but I certainly don’t rate my musical ability high enough to say that it is a limiting factor. In other words if VST3 in R3.3, suddenly I don’t become a ‘fuck off’ musical composer (alas). (In fact nothing has ever been added into Renoise that has improved me as a musician.)

There are people who do have a high musical integrity, and they say that not having say VST3 support is limiting their artistic ability. Likewise there are people with a lot of musical ability and know that they can achieve good musical compositions with limited software (they actually like the limitation or don’t mind.)

Finally there is a group of people (large?) who see themselves with amazing amounts of musical ability (overconfident) and the software is really always limiting them (but in reality their musical composition ability isn’t that good.)

Renoise potentially needs a bunch of new features.
But me myself and I only need VST3 support and easier textures / colors / themes / fonts / skins abilities.
I will be confortable enough with that to make music.

What Renoise really needs is one of my songs included in the next release

Is vst2 support really dieing out that quickly? Why does everyone want vst3 support?

You’ll get real sidechaining and be sure that Renoise is future proof, would be sad if for some reason development gets halted at VST2.

For me personally as long Reason user, i want to use Reason Rack in Renoise without any workarounds

I see… Can i offer you an egg in this trying time?

I just want to be able to switch the bottom panels so that when my mixer window is separated, I can choose whether to have my automations or my DSP chain below it. It’s really annoying and has been since the update that this cannot be changed. Please. lol.

I spent the entire morning reading this entire thread. Whoah lol

This.

Also being able to see either automation or devices in the lower frame (i.e., automation in pattern edit, devices in mixer)—when the mixer isn’t detached. This would be a huge workflow helper when on a single screen, since I never have the mixer detached when working on my laptop.

Also, having the bottom panel visibility persist (i.e., visible in mixer while hidden in pattern edit, or vice versa) would be helpful for managing screen real estate.

Thank you for your agreement. It’s genuinely ruining my workflow lol - I can see why someone might want automation on the left… but it should be on the right in my eyes.

All I want is the option. Thanks guys.

Rotating pattern blocks, as described here Rotating pattern blocks

New to Renoise (~ 1 month); couple suggestions below:

Ability to ‘play’ the filter after lowering input sound volume (note w/o instrument?).
Madtracker 2 file format (open source) import with automation convert.
Fasttracker’s ‘pattern loop start / trigger count’ (eg E60 + E63).
Fasttracker’s ‘Fine tune’ effect (eg. X27).
Right-Click instrument to mute / solo it.
Multichannel-Edit in step-mode.

A growing number of plug-ins I own are VST3-only. It’s been a trend this year for new releases like Fundamental, Super 8 R2, and the Reason Rack.

i’m not pumped for vst3 tbh if thats what the update is ( which it proberly is )
i already have the two main vst i use and there vst2 atm , but i guess vst3 is future proofing renoise.
i am good with the version i have but
audio tracks or better sidechaining would be nice and better quantizing but i think i am being optimistic.

We’ll see. Maybe there’s more features considering it’s not out already, but I have the impression VST3 is the main feature.
