What feature are you hoping for in upcoming Renoise releases?

Wayland support for properly working drag & drop when Fedora Linux drops xorg in the next release.

Just a couple more convenience features for the sampler:

  • different sample layers with separate overlap settings (e.g. have overlapping samples within a group/layer cycle but play overlapping layers at the same time)
  • multi-instruments, ability play multiple instruments at once/in one instrument slot
  • filtering options for the sample list (search/filter functions similar to the file browser, filtered out samples should then also be hidden in keyzones view)
  • option to capture multiple consecutive samples per key (for round robins) in instrument grabber

It would be great if there was a native Pitch Shifter effect in renoise.

Could we change the default shape for recorded automation? Currently it always changes to points, and I have to change it back to lines manually-- one pattern at a time. This affects the sound, since most plugins donā€™t do any smoothing between points.

Also, is there some way to increase the resolution for recording? It looks like you can have 256 points per line, but it only records once per line.

Iā€™m sure you thought of this ready. If youā€™re looking it from a sample perspective there are ways to pitch shift natively already. If you want to pitch shift VSTs you can render out the audio and apply Renoiseā€™s pitch shifting capabilities to what is now a sample. But doing it in real time would be convenient, yes.

need a way to use color schemes for the themes, I found I could get it down to about 3 main colors, but 4 is optimal, and 5 makes these

Not exaclty the same, but thereā€™s the possibility to shift the pitch by Instr. MIDI control.

maybe you could simply use the freeware mda pitchshifter vst?

and/orrr get the free edition of inner pitch which imo is one of the best (free) pitch shifters around;

I think since a lot of users want a piano roll, it would be super cool to see something similar to FL Studioā€™s ZGameEditor Visualizer so people could make their own music videos to go along with their Renoise tracks. Maybe it could have cool overlays, 3D effects, audio-reactive objects and things like that so when you exported your track, you could optionally have a little video to go along with it.

Ok, that was a bad joke. Iā€™m sorry.

After about a year with Renoise (damn, Iā€™m still a serious Renoise noob), I still think the only thing Iā€™d really want is a little DSP sandbox of sorts, maybe with a few programmable GUI knobs or something. But obviously, this type of thing exists elsewhere and might deviate from Renoiseā€™s goal altogether. I think my first thought when I saw the Formula device was, ā€œWhoa, I wonder if this will encompass more in the futureā€

Or the MadShifta that Iā€™m using since my early Renoise years in case I need to shift the pitch, but itā€™s an old 32bit plugin. But there are always freeware plugins for everything you can imagine and the possibility getting them is self-explanatory.

If I havenā€™t misunderstood what youā€™re talking about, something like this already exists. Renoise is a sort of hybrid between a tracker, a more common DAW and a modular system. You have the opportunity to program 8 ā€œmasterā€ knobs which can control one or more ā€œslaveā€ knobs, it is not an extensive system like the FL patcher which allows you to add and remove knobs/buttons/faders, also choosing their aesthetics and creating completely the GUI of what youā€™ve programmed behind the scenes, but it still allows you to do a lot of cool things. but maybe you already know it and you were referring to something else.

Iā€™m thinking more like what Protoplug or Plugā€™n Script do, but built-in and maybe a bit more stable. But honestly, even something remotely in the vein of PD / M4L (or even Poly Grid) would be absolutely nuts.

I do have a lot of words for Patcher (good and bad) but Iā€™ll have to save those for another time / thread

Yeah, to echo what @Dr4am said, the instrument fx section is basically our modular playground, especially in conjunction with phrases and custom doofersā€¦ A LOT can be done with it, even though the GUI may not be the prettiest

+1 but I think the gui is beautiful :star_struck:

Thanks, I was specifically thinking about treating reverb tails or delays etc with pitch shifting, so ideally having a native pitch shifter to use with the other native effects would be ideal. But of course, can use VSTs.

Iā€™d love to see a native vocoder and frequency shifter as well

This is annoying!!
I demand!!!
Finally make it so that the name of the opening file IS VISIBLE in the Renoise window!!!
Donā€™t make me guess which file is open.

Uhh, it IS visible. Down at the bottom of the right hand side, when the songs tab is selected. With the option to save or render. Right above the renoise logo

lol, you must be fun at parties
